Odoo sales reports in Syria: where your dollar and pound sales live

Odoo gives a business in Damascus, Aleppo or Homs daily, monthly and per-branch sales figures, in dollars if your books are in dollars, without rebuilding them in Excel. Two Syrian facts shape how you read them:

  • No Syrian localization: a new database loads Odoo's generic chart of accounts with placeholder 15% sales and purchase taxes, which you and your accountant must replace.
  • The new pound: since 1 January 2026, 100 old pounds equal 1 new pound, both under Odoo's one SYP currency. Pound history from before that date is 100 times larger than today's figures.

Take a Damascus solar and inverter dealer with a showroom till and installation projects quoted in Sales. Its sales sit in four reports:

  • Sales > Reporting > Sales (Sales Analysis): confirmed orders by confirmation date.
  • Accounting (or Invoicing) > Reporting > Management > Invoice Analysis: posted customer invoices minus credit notes. Odoo's own help text sends you here for turnover.
  • Point of Sale > Reporting > Orders: showroom receipts by shop, session and cashier. Takings by payment method are under Point of Sale > Orders > Payments.
  • CRM > Reporting > Forecast: installation deals by expected closing month.

The Dashboards app, included in Community, adds ready-made dashboards for Sales, eCommerce, Invoicing and, with the Employees app, Point of Sale; building your own needs Enterprise.

An honest note: if you only issue invoices and keep a ledger, a local accounting program may be enough. Odoo's reporting pays off when orders, stock, the till and the pipeline share one database.

Dollars, new pounds and taxes: reading Syrian sales figures correctly

Odoo's sales reports total money in the company currency, which Odoo will not let you change once journal items exist. Sales Analysis converts each order at the rate stored on it.

  • Books in USD: a pound order converts at the SYP rate recorded for its date. A 2025 order used an old-scale rate and a 2026 order a new-scale one, so dollar totals stay comparable. The risk is a stale rate: orders confirmed before the day's rate is entered take the latest rate on file and keep it, even after you correct the rate.
  • Books in SYP: everything before 1 January 2026 is in old pounds, so January 2026 against December 2025 looks like a 99% drop, on the standard Sales dashboard too. Compare within 2026, or divide older months by 100 in an export.
  • Open documents that straddle the change: a pound order confirmed in 2025 but invoiced in 2026 keeps old-scale prices and comes out about 100 times too large; an old-pound invoice paid in new pounds looks 99% unpaid. Have your accountant restate them in new pounds first.

To split sales by currency, keep one pricelist per currency and group Sales Analysis by Custom Group > Pricelist; amounts stay in company currency. For the dollars and pounds actually invoiced, group Invoice Analysis by Currency and read Untaxed Amount in Currency.

Taxes: until your accountant replaces the generic chart's default 15% sales tax, Total runs 15% above Untaxed Total. Judge performance on Untaxed Total, the base for margins too.

Turnover, till cash and margins when prices follow the dollar

The solar dealer's owner sees three sales figures, each one right:

  • Sales Analysis counts confirmed orders by confirmation month; later credit notes do not reduce them. Since Odoo 18 its default measure is Qty Ordered, so switch to Untaxed Total.
  • Invoice Analysis, with the Invoiced and Customers filters, counts posted invoices minus credit notes. Use it for turnover.
  • Uninvoiced showroom receipts post one journal entry per till session, so they reach the income accounts but never Invoice Analysis. Sales Analysis includes them under the till's Sales Team.

Till cash needs a currency decision. On Odoo 19 each till works in one currency, since every payment method's journal must match it, so dollars and pounds need a till each. Odoo 20 cash and bank payment methods accept several currencies; test mixed payments before go-live.

For margins, keep the Cost field right on every product, and on Odoo 19 enable Sales > Configuration > Settings > Pricing > Margins (Odoo 20 has margins always on). Order lines keep their own cost while Invoice Analysis uses today's, so read past margins in Sales Analysis.

The currency trap: with dollar books, a pound order's dollar margin depends on its order-date rate. A fixed price on the SYP pricelist stays put when the rate moves, so dollar margin quietly shrinks; a rule based on the dollar Sales Price converts at each order's rate. Group Sales Analysis by Pricelist with the Margin measure to spot the gap. In pound books, never set a 2026 new-pound cost against a 2025 old-pound sale.

Sales KPIs for a Syrian owner: a dollar-and-pound scorecard in Odoo

Save each view below under Favorites > Save current search (Save search on Odoo 20); favorites stay private unless you share them.

  • Turnover by currency: Invoice Analysis, Invoiced and Customers filters, grouped by month and Currency. Untaxed Amount gives each currency's share in company currency; Untaxed Amount in Currency shows pound invoices in pounds.
  • Rate freshness: Accounting (or Invoicing) > Configuration > Currencies, the date of the last SYP rate. If it is not today, today's pound orders carry a stale rate.
  • Unpaid by currency: Customers > Invoices, To pay filter, grouped by Currency. With dollar books, pound debts lose dollar value when the pound weakens.
  • Orders and margin by currency: Sales Analysis grouped by Pricelist, with Untaxed Total and Margin. There is no margin % measure, so divide Margin by Untaxed Total in a spreadsheet.
  • Till takings by payment method: Point of Sale > Orders > Payments, or its Reporting > Sales Details.
  • Ready to invoice: Sales Analysis, To Invoice filter, Untaxed Amount To Invoice: what can be billed now, not the whole unbilled book (Untaxed Total minus Untaxed Amount Invoiced). For a reconstruction contractor billing in stages, it is finished work not yet claimed.

For an owner abroad on a weak line, the Digest Email option under Settings > Emails sends a summary; open the digest to choose daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. Its All Sales figure includes tax and needs at least User: All Documents rights, and its Revenue comes from income accounts, so neither matches the pivot exactly.

Who sees whose numbers, branch reporting and Syrian data clean-up

Only Sales Administrators see Sales > Reporting, and Invoice Analysis also needs Invoicing or Accounting rights. Users with Own Documents Only rights see only rows where they are the salesperson or none is set, in both analyses; dashboards follow the same rules. There is no standard "my team only" level: if the Aleppo manager must see only Aleppo, use company branches and limit that user to the Aleppo branch, or add a custom record rule.

For branches in Damascus, Aleppo and Homs, pick one key and use it everywhere:

  • A Sales Team per branch: the lightest option; the pivot groups by it directly.
  • A warehouse per branch: with Inventory, Sales Analysis groups by Warehouse.
  • Company branches, from the Branches tab of the company form: own pricelists and stock under the parent's accounting settings. Multi-company is on the Custom plan; check branch pricing on Odoo's official pricing page.
  • Analytic accounts per branch, filled by Analytic Distribution Models, for branch profit and loss.

Three Syrian clean-ups make them trustworthy:

  • Merge customers typed once in Arabic and once in Latin letters.
  • Keep one pricelist per currency, so each order shows its currency.
  • Name one person to enter the SYP rate each morning, before the first order.

Frequently asked questions

How do I keep the exchange rate current in Odoo so pound sales convert correctly?

Enter one SYP rate a day, on the new scale, under Accounting (or Invoicing) > Configuration > Currencies, before the first order is confirmed. If a day is missing, Odoo uses the latest rate on file and stores it on each order confirmed that day; a later correction does not change those orders. Make one person responsible for it. Automatic Currency Rates is an Enterprise setting: check that its provider publishes an SYP rate, and that it is the rate you actually use, before relying on it.

New Syrian pound vs the dollar: how do I read my Odoo sales reports in both?

Odoo reports in your company currency and converts each order at its stored rate. With dollar books, totals stay comparable across the 1 January 2026 change as long as each rate was entered on the scale in force at the time, and open 2025 pound orders and invoices were restated in new pounds before being invoiced or paid in 2026. With pound books, figures before 2026 are 100 times larger, so compare within one scale. For the dollars and pounds actually invoiced, group Invoice Analysis by Currency.

Does Odoo have Syrian taxes and a Syrian chart of accounts?

No. Odoo 19 and 20 have no Syrian localization, so a new database starts from Odoo's generic chart of accounts with placeholder 15% sales and purchase taxes, and the 15% sales tax becomes the default on new products. Before the first invoice, have your accountant adapt the accounts, replace or archive those taxes and set the Default Taxes in the accounting settings. Products created earlier keep the old tax, so check them too. Which taxes apply to your business is for your accountant to confirm.

Can I follow my sales on my phone while I am outside Syria?

Yes. Odoo recommends its progressive web app, which you install from the browser and which works on Community. The App Store and Play Store apps are listed as Enterprise only. Reports and dashboards load from the server, so they need a connection to show current figures; Odoo 20's offline mode is meant for creating and editing records during outages. On a weak line, a weekly digest email is the lightest way to follow sales and revenue.
